Dr. Chopra, 76, surrendered his medical license in 2020 while the case was pending, the department said. He admitted prescribing hydrocodone, Xanax, and Promethazine with codeine syrup, all for illegitimate purposes and outside the usual course of professional practice.
He is set for sentencing on Sept. 5, the department said. Dr. Chopra faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine, but may ultimately receive a lighter sentence.
