The average annual number of deaths from excessive alcohol use rose by 29%, from 137,927 between 2016 and 2017 to 178,307 between 2020 and 2021, based on 58 alcohol-related conditions from the CDC’s Alcohol-Related Disease Impact application.
The study also found that the number of alcohol-related deaths increased more in women than in men, increasing by 35% and 27% respectively.
