St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Miss., is closing its behavioral health services, according to a June 5 report from CBS affiliate WJTV.

King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services and Grand Rapids-based Trinity Health Michigan have partnered to open Southridge Behavioral Hospital, a behavioral health hospital, in Byron Center, Mich.

Brent Forester, MD, joined Tufts Medicine as psychiatrist-in-chief and chairman for the department of psychiatry at Tufts Medical Center in Boston; the appointment became effective June 1. 

Christian Losch has been named CEO of Casa Palmera, a residential and outpatient behavioral health treatment center in Del Mar, Calif., according to a June 4 report from the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Cascade Behavioral Health Hospital in Tukwila, Wash., is closing its doors, according to a June 2 report from the Seattle Times. 

Although the mean annual wage among all psychiatrists in the U.S. is $247,350, that can vary based on factors including experience and practice setting, according to the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational employment statistics survey.

Behavioral health is projected to be one of the fastest-growing areas in healthcare over the next few years. Those projections may fall short, however, if leaders aren't asking the right questions.

The U.S. may face a shortage of 54,100 to 139,000 physicians by 2033, and access to care in every specialty, including mental health services, is a national issue. 

Generalized anxiety disorder was the most commonly diagnosed mental health condition in 2022, according to data from Definitive Healthcare.
