The Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center held its grand opening as the region prepares to expand access to inpatient and outpatient mental healthcare services across West Texas.
The 200-bed facility was developed through a partnership between the Odessa, Texas-based Ector County Hospital District and Midland County Hospital District and will serve children, adolescents, adults and seniors, with separate treatment areas for each age group, The Midland Reporter-Telegram reported April 22.
The facility will offer inpatient psychiatric care, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. A local mental health authority and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center’s Permian Basin Department of Psychiatry also plan to expand outpatient operations at the site.
The center includes a crisis intervention center staffed by psychiatrists and counselors providing 24/7 urgent mental healthcare access, according to the report. Regional colleges and universities also partnered on workforce development efforts tied to the project, including behavioral health technician training at Midland College and expanded counseling and social work programs at the University of Texas Permian Basin.
At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
