Ayesha Delany-Brumsey, PhD, senior adviser and director of community-based services in the Office of Behavioral Health at New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals, has been appointed commissioner of the Office of Community Safety by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Dr. Delany-Brumsey has more than 10 years of experience in public health, mental healthcare and criminal justice reform, according to a May 5 news release from the mayor’s office. She previously served as chief strategic growth officer at Fountain House in New York City and director of behavioral health research and programming at the mayor’s office of criminal justice.
In her new role, Dr. Delany-Brumsey will oversee coordination across several city offices focused on violence prevention, victim services, hate crimes and community mental health. The Office of Community Safety will also oversee crisis response programs, including B-HEARD, across all five boroughs.
