The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and The Jed Foundation plan to combine into a single organization.
The combined entity, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention/The Jed Foundation, is expected to be completed by this fall, according to an April 21 news release from the AFSP. John MacPhee, CEO of JED, will lead the organization following the closing, while Bob Gebbia, CEO of AFSP, will remain as immediate past CEO through Jan. 15, 2027, to support integration.
The organizations said the combined nonprofit will focus on suicide prevention across youth and adult populations, integrating AFSP’s national chapter network, research investment and policy work with JED’s youth-focused mental health programs.
The new entity will have an annual operating budget of approximately $75 million and net assets of roughly $140 million. AFSP currently has 56,000 volunteer advocates and 73 chapters nationwide, while JED partners with nearly 1,500 schools and community-based organizations, serving 10 million youths and engaging more than 30 million stakeholders through its program.
At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
