Lake County (California) Behavioral Health Services will close two peer support centers effective June 1, due to state funding changes.

The Big Oak Peer Support Center in Clearlake Oaks and the Circle of Native Minds in Lakeport will shut down due to “budgetary changes tied to Proposition 1 and the transition to the Behavioral Health Services Act,” which restructured how behavioral health funding can be allocated at the county level, the county said in a March 25 Facebook post.

The agency said it is exploring options to continue peer-driven services in alternative formats, including evaluating the clubhouse model at its remaining peer support center, La Voz de la Esperanza in Clearlake, according to a March 24 news release from the agency.

LCBHS said it will remain committed to prevention, early intervention and community-based support as the new funding framework evolves.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place October 20–22 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
