Matthews, N.C.-basedThompson Child & Family Focus and Hornet Sports & Entertainment, the organization that owns the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, have expanded a multiyear partnership aimed at advancing youth mental health support across the Carolinas.
The collaboration introduces Hive Mind, a sports-aligned youth mental health initiative designed for coaches, teams and young athletes, according to a Feb. 17 news release from Hornet Sports & Entertainment. The program will use basketball, storytelling and youth-based engagement to normalize conversation around mental health and equip young people with tools to build confidence, resilience and emotional awareness.
The partnership also extends Thompson’s role as a partner of the Charlotte Hornets to include the Greensboro Swarm, the organization’s NBA G-League affiliate, to broaden its reach across the Charlotte region.
Additional elements include a “mental timeout” within Hornets Hoops clinics and camps and a “mental fitness playbook” distributed to attendees, according to the release.
