New England College in Henniker, N.H., has secured $775,000 in federal funding to support its four-year bachelor’s degree program in community mental health, and expand academic and training facilities.
The funding was included in a bipartisan federal appropriations package championed by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., according to a Feb. 17 news release from the college. It will support continued renovation of the Austin and Betty Ann Kovacs Science Center to strengthen instructional spaces and training infrastructure for students preparing for careers in community mental health, human services and related fields.
The community mental health program aims to address workforce shortages in New Hampshire by preparing graduates with academic and applied training to serve individuals, families and communities.
Upgrades to the center will support the program’s four-year curriculum, according to the release. The investment also aligns with New England College’s five-year strategic plan, which focuses on strengthening high-demand academic programs and modernizing learning spaces to meet workforce and community needs.
