The American Hospital Association has partnered with the FBI to develop resources aimed at preventing targeted violence in healthcare settings.

As part of the partnership, the FBI enlisted national experts to contribute to a leadership guide designed to help healthcare leaders develop and strengthen behavioral threat and assessment management efforts. The experts also wrote supplemental, tactical articles for security professionals and other members of the healthcare workforce seeking more detailed guidance on behavioral threat and assessment management.

The leadership guide outlines practical, evidence-based tools and strategies to support security measures and threat management protocols. It provides templates, models and references for hospitals and health systems to use when establishing multidisciplinary behavioral threat and assessment management teams focused on identifying and mitigating potential threats.

The guide also includes guidance on incorporating local law enforcement and the FBI into hospital-based behavioral threat and assessment management efforts, emphasizing coordination and communication between healthcare organizations and law enforcement agencies.

In addition, the resource addresses training and education for healthcare workers, with a focus on recognizing warning signs of violence, responding appropriately to threats and maintaining a culture of safety within healthcare environments.
