Williamsburg, Va.-based Colonial Behavioral Health plans to expand access to mental health and primary care services through a new integrated healthcare campus, NBC affiliate WAVY reported Feb. 6.

The planned facility will aim to bring behavioral health, primary care, dental services and pharmacy access together at a single site and would serve uninsured and underinsured patients.

“Behavioral health services, mental health conditions and substance use disorder still carry a stigma in our community,” David Coe, executive director of Colonial Behavioral Health, told WAVY. “We want to help destigmatize access to services.”

The project is supported by $2 million in federal funding secured through the Community Project Funding appropriations process, which will be used to cover early planning costs required before construction begins.

Colonial Behavioral Health said the campus will consolidate several service locations.

The organization serves more than 3,500 patients each year, according to its website.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
