The University of California San Diego has received a $10 million lead grant from Price Philanthropies to support construction and the first four years of operations at its new East Campus Behavioral Health Hub, slated to open in 2028.
The facility will include two inpatient psychiatric units with 50 beds and offer a range of outpatient services, including partial hospitalization and interventional psychiatry, according to a Dec. 11 news release. UC San Diego is raising a total of $35 million to fully fund development of the project.
The hub will also house a workforce training center to address a regional shortage of behavioral health professionals. Steve Koh, MD, psychiatrist in chief and associate chief medical officer for behavioral health at UC San Diego Health, said the integrated model will allow for real-time workforce training, new care innovations and expanded access for underserved patients.
