Lynnwood, Wash.-based Edmonds College launched a new Bachelor of Applied Science in Behavioral Health Support Specialist degree program.
The program is designed for students with professional and technical academic backgrounds seeking advancement in the behavioral health field, according to a Nov. 17 news release. Coursework focuses on trauma-informed care, case management and health equity, with the goal of preparing graduates for certification through the Washington State Department of Health.
The degree launches amid a national behavioral health workforce shortage, with demand for mental health and substance use services outpacing the supply of qualified professionals. National and state-level efforts are increasingly focused on expanding training programs, pipeline development and certification pathways to strengthen the workforce.
