Phoenix-based Arizona Autism plans to terminate approximately 2,800 employees, according to an Oct. 30 WARN notice.
The provider, which operates group homes and offers in-home care for children with autism, will transition to an undisclosed number of independent contractor roles, citing “evolving market conditions” as the reason for the restructuring.
Advocacy groups argue looming federal budget cuts are a factor, according to the Nov. 3 report from 12 News.
The company has not disclosed how many of the affected workers have been offered contractor positions.
The transition will take effect on Dec. 29.
