Nashville, Tenn.-based Mental Health Cooperative is preparing to open a children and youth stabilization unit for patients ages 4 to 17, according to an Oct. 21 report from ABC affiliate WKRN

The facility will include 15 beds and two observation beds for high-risk patients. Most stays are expected to last between one and three days, during which care teams will focus on stabilizing children in crisis and connecting families with long-term support.

“Having resources readily available 24/7 regardless of an individual’s ability to pay to help serve and stop that, then literally changes the life of that child and of that family,” Michelle Schafer, CEO of the company, said.

An official opening date has not been announced, but the unit is expected to be ready within 30 days, according to the report.
