Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health and Summa Health Medical Group are no longer in-network with UnitedHealthcare affiliate Optum/United Behavioral Health as of Aug. 1.

The contract expired July 31 after months of negotiation failed to yield a new agreement, according to an Aug. 22 Akron Beacon Journal report. Patients with Optum/United Behavioral Health coverage may now face out-of-network costs for behavioral health services at Summa.

Summa will stop scheduling appointments for all nonemergency patients who have out-of-network insurance plans starting Sept. 1.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
