Montana officials are moving ahead with plans to build a new state-run behavioral health hospital near Billings, the Billings Gazette reported Aug. 20.
The $26.5 million project was approved by the state legislature earlier this year and is intended to relieve pressure on the Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs, the state’s only public psychiatric facility. The proposed Billings hospital would focus on patients requiring intensive psychiatric care who are also involved in the criminal justice system.
State leaders are expected to take steps by the end of August to authorize land acquisition for the new facility.
