New York City has awarded contracts to 13 mental health clubhouses for adults with severe mental health conditions through a $30 million investment by the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Seven of the clubhouses will be newly established, while six have received renewed funding to continue operations, according to an Aug. 12 press release. The expansion, which spans across all five boroughs, is expected to increase enrollment to 6,600 members by 2027 — more than double the current total.

Clubhouses are free, member-led spaces that offer peer support and access to services including health and legal benefits, education and employment resources, according to the release. Programming is tailored to the interests and backgrounds of each community.
