Astria Toppenish (Wash.) Hospital has opened a new behavioral health unit, according to an Aug. 7 CBS affiliate KIMA report.
The 14-bed unit doubles the hospital’s behavioral health capacity to 29 beds and comes following a surge in patients last year. The unit provides long-term inpatient psychiatric care and medical withdrawal management with 24/7 staffing, according to the hospital’s website.
The hospital raised $8.6 million for the project’s construction and $2.4 million to renovate the preexisting 15-bed unit. Hospital leaders said the expansion was driven by community efforts to improve access to behavioral health in Yakima County, according to the report.
Astria Toppenish Hospital is part of Sunnyside, Wash.-based Astria Health.
