Louisville, Ky.-based Seven Counties Services has created two mobile health units to address mounting mental health, substance use and gun violence concerns, according to a July 31 report from CBS affiliate WLKY.
The mobile units — staffed by licensed behavioral health providers and peer specialists — aim to provide immediate crisis intervention, mental healthcare and substance use disorder support with the goal of educating and fostering safer communities. The seven counties served by the units are Jefferson (home to Louisville), Oldham, Bullitt, Shelby, Spencer, Trimble and Henry.
“There’s not enough behavioral health providers to go around in our community. We’ve got to work together and figure out how do we hand off to one another,” Liz McKune, EdD, COO of Seven Counties Services, said in the report.
In addition to mental health interventions, the service also offers community Narcan nasal spray devices and gun locks.
