Geisinger doubles bed count with new $49M behavioral health facility

Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System will open a new behavioral health center Aug. 5, according to an Aug. 1 report from New Castle News

The $49 million center will serve patients facing behavioral health challenges and increase Geisinger’s previous bed count of 46 to 96 in response to urgent community needs, according to Dawn Zieger, Geisinger’s vice president of behavioral health. 

The center includes four housing units with 24 beds each and will provide inpatient treatment services, such as activity therapy using art, music and pets. It will also treat patients facing substance use disorders.

The facility has capacity to expand to 120 beds and five units total, according to the report.
