American Psychiatric Association names president

The American Psychiatric Association has named Theresa Miskimen Rivera, MD, to serve as its next president. 

Dr. Miskimen Rivera started her one-year term on May 21. She previously served as chair and medical director of the psychiatry department at Flemington, N.J.-based Hunterdon Medical Center. She has spent 30 years in the psychiatry field and has held several regional and national leadership roles at the APA throughout her career. 

Dr. Miskimen Rivera worked under three past governors in New Jersey, leading efforts to improve access to high-quality mental health care for youth and multicultural communities.
