South Carolina’s mental health director resigns

Kenneth Rogers, MD, is stepping down from his position as the director of South Carolina’s Department of Mental Health, The State reported Aug. 19.

Dr. Rogers has served in the position since April 2020, the report said. His resignation will take effect Nov. 1.

The state’s Mental Health Commission will select the next director, pending Senate confirmation, the report said.

Greg Pearce, chair of the commission, said Dr. Rogers’ resignation was unrelated to any challenges the agency has come under fire for in the last two years, the report said.
