In addition to this designation, the health system has been awarded a $7 million grant through the program, according to a Jan. 25 news release from Montefiore. The system was selected to receive the designation through Fidelis Care, Healthfirst and MetroPlusHealth to address gaps in the city’s behavioral health system.
The funding will be used for a variety of projects, including the addition of six extended-observation beds with the adult psychiatric observation suite at Montefiore’s Henry & Lucy Moses Division Emergency Department in the Bronx.
Montefiore also plans to open an intensive partial hospitalization program for adults and a child outpatient psychiatry clinic in the South Bronx, in addition to adding services within its comprehensive psychiatric emergency program, the release said.
