The report, commissioned by mental health nonprofit Inseparable, compared the average costs of psychotherapy in each state, how often people diagnosed with mental health conditions receive treatment, the number of behavioral health providers and several other factors.
Milliman calculated a “therapy access ratio” for each state by calculating the difference in the average number of therapy visits received by individuals with mental health diagnoses to the to the average number of therapy visits received by individuals with behavioral health conditions living in the top decile of metropolitan service areas with the highest supply of behavioral health providers.
