“Unfortunately, the center is not adaptable to renovation and expansion in a way that will meet evolving industry standards and the growing needs for mental and behavioral health in the community, especially among those who are most vulnerable,” Ascension said in a statement on the closing.
Following the closing of the center on Dec. 1 and the clinic on Dec. 31, Ascension Providence, part of St. Louis-based Ascension, said it will continue to serve mental and behavioral patients in crisis in the emergency department. Patients will receive care in a seven-bed “green unit” before being discharged or transferred to other facilities, the report said.
Ascension will also be moving the Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network crisis call center — which is currently housed in the DePaul Center — to a new diversion center opening this month.
