5 states with the highest, lowest suicide rates

Wyoming has the highest rate of suicide in the country, while New Jersey has the lowest, according to an analysis released Sept. 12 by personal finance website WalletHub.

To determine the rankings, WalletHub compared states across emotional and physical well-being, work environment and community environment.

Here are the states with the highest and lowest suicide rates, according to recent data:

Highest suicide rates:

  1. Wyoming
  2. Montana
  3. Alaska
  4. New Mexico
  5. South Dakota

Lowest suicide rates:

  1. New Jersey
  2. New York
  3. Massachusetts
  4. Maryland
  5. Connecticut
