The eight-page lawsuit filed by nine former patients alleges that the addiction treatment facility endangers patients through medical malpractice and negligence. The suit calls for compensatory and punitive damages for failing to provide adequate medical care.
It alleges that Landmark violated state and federal health department rules and provided unhygienic living conditions by refusing access to working toilets for over 24 hours.
It also alleges that Landmark failed to prohibit patients from bringing in illicit substances, disrupting the client recovery process.
Legal concerns began after three patient deaths were reported at Landmark between July 3 and July 9.
Indiana’s Division of Mental Health and Addiction is investigating the facility, according to the report. On July 27, state officials revoked Landmark’s licenses at its Mishawaka, Fort Wayne and Carmel, Ind., facilities.
Landmark founder and CEO Matt Boyle did not answer WNDU‘s requests for comment.
