Texas overdose task force aids operation leading to 3 arrests

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas and the Drug Enforcement Administration San Antonio Field Division established the Overdose Task Force, which is focused on overdose investigations in the San Antonio metropolitan area.

The Overdose Task Force participated in a Homeland Security Task Force operation Oct. 1, according to an Oct. 5 news release from the DEA. During the operation, authorities searched three residences near the 1000 block of Torreon Street after allegedly witnessing multiple hand-to-hand controlled substance sales.

Authorities encountered eight individuals during the operation and arrested three on federal drug charges. All three had prior felony convictions.

Valerie Samaniego was charged with possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl. Alfredo Alejandro was charged with possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine mixture. Alejandro Reyes was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

The Overdose Task Force brings together state, local and federal agencies, including the DEA San Antonio Division, San Antonio Police Department, Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, University of Texas at San Antonio Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The charges are allegations. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
