HHS awarded supplemental funding to Alabama, Kansas and West Virginia to strengthen the role of faith-based organizations and leaders in substance use prevention, according to a Sept. 15 news release from the agency.
Here are four things to know:
1. Each state is receiving an additional $500,000 under the Strategic Prevention Framework-Partnerships for Success grants.
2. Kansas and West Virginia are using the funding to work with faith communities to build new partnerships, conduct needs assessments and co-develop prevention strategic plans with faith leaders while engaging youth in the process.
3. In Alabama, the funding will support regional needs assessments examining how faith-based prevention shapes youth attitudes and where additional resources are needed.
4. The funding will also enable Alabama’s certified Faith-Based Support Specialists to reach youth ages 12 to 17 and create opportunities for them to connect with faith-based and community leaders.
