California launched CA Bridge Connect, a free statewide phone and text service designed to connect people seeking opioid use treatment with immediate assistance and continued support.
Individuals who contact the service can receive same-day referrals to behavioral health navigators. The navigators can evaluate their needs and connect them with clinics, emergency departments, community providers and telehealth providers, according to an Aug. 25 news release from Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office.
The service can also provide Medication for Addiction Treatment when appropriate. It is available regardless of insurance coverage to people seeking treatment as well as families, caregivers and clinicians.
CA Bridge Connect expands on the state’s work with CA Bridge, which began in 2018 to increase access to Medication for Addiction Treatment. Among patients offered treatment in emergency departments, 40% accepted it. The rate increased to 85% for patients who met with a substance use navigator.
