UVA psychiatry department names permanent chair after nearly a year as interim

The University of Virginia School of Medicine named Nassima Ait-Daoud Tiouririne, MD, chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences.

Dr. Ait-Daoud Tiouririne previously served as interim chair of the department, according to an Aug. 10 news release from UVA Health. She was appointed interim chair in September 2025 and began her new role the week of Aug. 3.

She also has held leadership roles at UVA Health, including vice chair for clinical affairs, medical director of ambulatory psychiatry, director of the Center for Leading Edge Addiction Recovery and program director of the addiction medicine fellowship.

Dr. Ait-Daoud Tiouririne succeeded Anita Clayton, MD.
