University of Michigan Health-Sparrow in Lansing broke ground on an $83 million behavioral health facility that will expand inpatient psychiatric services across the region.
The Janice M. Granger Behavioral Health Building will include 64 beds for adult, geriatric, pediatric and adolescent patients, according to an Aug. 5 news release from the system The project, located behind UM Health-Sparrow Lansing near Pennsylvania Avenue and Jerome Street, is expected to open in 2028.
The facility is being funded in part by the largest gift in UM Health-Sparrow’s history from Alton L. and the late Janice M. Granger. It will feature indoor and outdoor gardens and other design elements intended to support patient care.
UM Health-Sparrow is partnering with Towson, Md.-based Sheppard Pratt to operate the hospital. The organizations said the collaboration is intended to expand access to behavioral healthcare for patients throughout the region.
