The $7 million, 24-bed unit was funded by the Clearwater, Fla.-based health system and Hillsborough County, according to an April 6 news release from BayCare. The unit will treat patients for medical and psychiatric needs simultaneously.

“This brings psychiatry and medicine together into a single effort to care for the patient as a whole. We’re not carving this out, with a separate space for each,” Anthony Santucci, MSN, RN, director of behavioral health nursing at BayCare, said in the release. “This is a reimagining of a care delivery model.”

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
