New York will provide $6.3 million to establish seven clubhouses that support people living with mental health challenges, according to a July 13 news release from Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office.
Here are four things to know:
- The funding, administered by the New York State Office of Mental Health, will expand the voluntary, member-driven model to communities outside New York City.
- The awards include $1.4 million each to Access Supports for Living in Westchester County and East House in Monroe County; $956,765 each to New Horizon Counseling Center in Suffolk County and RISE in Saratoga County; $551,175 each to Unity House in Cayuga County and St. John’s Community Services in Oswego County; and $429,525 to Hands Across Long Island in Suffolk County.
- Clubhouses provide peer support, employment resources and life skills training in a community setting. State-funded programs will be required to operate at least five days a week and offer routine recreational activities during evenings and weekends from their own physical space.
- The funding is part of Gov. Hochul’s $196 million mental health investment secured in the fiscal year 2026 State Budget. Under the initiative, New York State has invested roughly $2 billion to expand access to mental health services and strengthen the continuum of care.
