MaineHealth Behavioral Health in Westbrook launched a new advanced practice provider psychiatric mental health fellowship to prepare graduated psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician associates for practice. The 12-month program begins Sept. 30, according to a July 6 news release from the provider.
The fellowship includes supervised rotations in inpatient, outpatient, substance use disorder treatment and rural psychiatry settings as well as didactic education, psychotherapy training and mentorship from psychiatric physicians and advanced practice provider faculty. The inaugural class was selected through a competitive application process.
MaineHealth said it will evaluate the fellowship during its first year and pursue accreditation as the program grows. The nonprofit health system includes a Level I trauma medical center, eight additional licensed hospitals, more than 2,000 providers and approximately 23,000 care team members serving 1.1 million residents in Maine and New Hampshire.
