The Florida State Senate moved forward with a plan Feb. 13 that would designate $114 million to behavioral health teaching hospitals across the state, PBS affiliate WUFT reported Feb. 15.
The bill would designate four pilot hospitals that would be linked to medical schools. To be designated a behavioral health teaching hospital, each facility would have to offer a variety of programs — including psychiatric residency and post-doctoral clinical psychology fellowship programs.
The four planned facilities are Tampa General Hospital and the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa; UF Health Shands and the University of Florida Medical School, both in Gainesville; UF Health Jacksonville and the University of Florida Medical School in Jacksonville; and Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
