$85M psychiatric hospital completed in Michigan

The Caro (Mich.) Psychiatric Hospital, a 100-bed, $85 million psychiatric facility, was completed on June 5.

The 130,000-square-foot hospital is replacing the Caro Center, a residential treatment center for individuals with epilepsy, which will be knocked down before the hospital opens to patients, according to a June 28 news release from Michigan's Department of Technology, Management and Budget.

The facility comprises four patient "neighborhood" units consisting of 68 single-bed suites with private bathrooms, 16 double rooms and rooms specialized to accommodate patients ages 65 and up.

A health center, dental clinic and space for telehealth appointments are available for additional care. It also contains amenities such as a hair salon, exercise room, greenhouse, library, art and music rooms, gymnasium and chapel, according to the report.

Video surveillance and building access controls were implemented throughout the facility to ensure patient safety, according to the news release.
